Religious Education

Religious Education Aims:

 

1. To develop an understanding of what it means to be committed to a religious tradition.

2. To have respect for other peoples’ views and to celebrate the diversity in society.

3. To understand the relationship between humans, their environment and other living creatures, including examples of religious teaching and practice.

4. To investigate the significance of religion in the local, national and global communities.

5. To use and interpret information about religions from a range of sources.

6. To develop and promote a tolerant understanding of and a respect for religious believers in our multicultural society.

7. To develop investigative and research skills in order to make reasoned judgments about religious issues.

8. To be aware of the main rituals within acts of worship or meditation and recognise that shared feelings are a part of worship.

9. To understand the role and the responsibilities of authority figures within their own lives and of religious leaders in different faith communities.

10. To understand how religious festivals are related to key figures, events and stories and how these are celebrated within families and religious communities.

11. To know more about places of religious importance, preferably explored through visits; the way each place is used and its meaning and significance.

12. To know more about religious festivals which share common themes.

13. To understand the way symbolic, verbal and non-verbal expression and actions are used to convey meaning, particularly in religious contexts.
